People's rally in Khabarovsk Krai supports the arrested chief executive
China News Network, Moscow, July 12 (Xinhua) According to Russian media sources, the Chief Executive of Russia’s Khabarovsk Krai Fulgar was detained on 9th for a suspected murder. On the 11th, the people of Khabarovsk Krai held a rally in support of Furgar.
According to the "News", the rally was held in Khabarovsk, the capital of Khabarovsk Krai, and in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, a large city in the border. The rally was organized by the Fulgar team without the authorities’ approval. According to news from Khabarovsk's internal bureau, the number of rallies in Khabarovsk has reached 10,000 to 12,000.
According to local media in Khabarovsk, the people of Khabarovsk blocked the main local road and protested at the gate of the state government, demanding support for the people’s choice and the release of Fulgar. The police did not intervene in the rally.
According to Interfax News Agency, the Fuergar press secretary thanked the participants and hoped that the crowd would disperse. Khabarovsk Krai’s first deputy chairman Hrapov told the public that everything needs to be done within the legal framework. The frontier government is not indifferent to the fate of Fulgar.
Fulgar is a member of Russia’s opposition party, the Liberal Democratic Party, and has served as chief executive of Khabarovsk Krai since September 2018. The Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation said recently that the detention of Fulgar is related to a case of an organized criminal gang. The group was suspected of repeatedly murdering and assaulting businessmen in the Khabarovsk Krai and Amur Region from 2004 to 2005. Fulgar is suspected to be the organizer of this criminal gang. In addition, some media quoted sources as saying that Fulgar was also suspected of buying a murderer and killing a political enemy. On the 9th, Furgal was taken from the office and escorted to Moscow. Investigators brought charges against him and asked the court for pretrial detention. On the 10th, a Moscow court ruled that Fulgar was detained until September. (End)
